By airplane:

If you reach Germany by plane to Frankfurt or Cologne/Bonn it is most convenient to take a connecting flight directly to Kiel. There are 1-3 flights per day from each of these two airports to Kiel (airport: Kiel-Holtenau). From there you should take a taxi to your hotel.
If you arrive in Hamburg, there is a direct airport bus called Kielius (running each hour and a round-trip ticket costs 24,- Euro) leaving close to the exit of terminal 4. The bus takes 1h 30 min to reach the center of Kiel, close to the main station.
People who are able to read german can also visit the bus timetable on the web Kielius Timetable (German).

Arriving by car from the south:

Take the motorway/freeway via Hamburg (Autobahn A7), change to no. A215 at the motorway bifurcation (Autobahndreieck Bordesholm).
